I am particularly fond of ladybugs--who isn't? As far as insects go, ladybugs are cute and almost cuddly.
But I also like other kinds of insects, although I like to keep a healthy distance from real spiders. My jool spideys are awesome, though.
I collect bug jewelry, mostly brooches and pendants. Most of my "jools" are costume jewelry, but unless you are a collector, you can't imagine the value of and fierce competition for some of these pieces: Trifari, Chanel, Coro, Christian Dior, Eisenberg, HAR, Miriam Haskell, Hobe, Jelly Belly (Trifari's the gold standard!), Juliana (some awesome stuff), Reinad, Reja, Weiss, among others.
Some of my pieces are not marked; I bought them simply because I liked them. Most of them were bargains.
However (but don't tell my better half), I once (long ago) spent $85.00 on an art deco bug. It's probably worth half that amount--that is, if his body is not real opal. If it's an opal, who knows? No matter what, I still like the little critter. But I still get weak in the knees when I think of $85.00 flying from my checking account for something that nestles in the middle of my palm.
From time to time, I'll post pics of my bug and non-bug jools.
I don't buy much jewelry these days; I already have a lot, and it's time to enjoy the lovely pieces I already own.
But if I see a must-have piece, I'll probably whip out that poor, thin checkbook...
